Some information about Aci Sant'Antonio
Aci Sant' Antonio, 13 km from Catania,
province of which it is part, is placed to 300 m above the sea
level. Of medieval origin, it is an important agricultural centre
that it boasts also a handicraft interesting production, particularly
represented from the famous Sicilian "Carretti":
in Aci S. Antonio in fact it is still possible to visit some small
local handicraft centers still specialized in the fabrication of
the “Carretti”, which represents, in the same way
of the Sicilian "pupi" (the traditional marionettes
of the popular epic theater), one of the maximum symbols of the
Sicilian handicraft.
As architectonic patrimony, particular mention deserves the Dome,
the Church of S. Michele, the Palazzo Riggio and the Palazzo Spitaleri.
